Ex-Newcastle United and England star Kieron Dyer has left his role as Ipswich's Under-23s manager.

The 43-year-old has been in the job since October 2020, but was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis five months ago.

Dyer may need a liver transplant, and it is thought to be linked to his decision to leave his post.

Ipswich chief executive Mark Ashton said: "It has come as a surprise to us that Kieron wishes to stand down.

"He has played his part in the development of some of our young players and we thank him for his efforts.

"I speak on behalf of everyone at the club in wishing Kieron all the very best with his future."
