Newcastle United will be forced to pay more than they expected for Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio.
The Magpies had the opportunity to pay €30m to sign the 20-year-old in January.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo says Sporting now want €40m for their talented young stopper.
The news comes as Inacio is close to agreeing a new contract with Sporting that will keep him at the club until 2024.
A release clause of €45m will be included in the new deal, but Sporting would accept a slightly lower offer.
Eddie Howe is expected to bolster his defence this summer, with the Magpies linked to Lille's Sven Botman and Diego Carlos of Sevilla.
