KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 death numbers have surged to 113 victims – the highest since March 2 with 115 cases – and of which 41 are classified as brought-in-dead. This brings the death toll to 33,497.
As for the daily caseload, the nation logged another 30,246 infections, with a cumulative total of 3,711,199, according to CovidNow data.
Majority of the reported deaths came from Selangor as the state recorded 22 victims, followed by Sabah (18), Johor (14), Kedah (12), Penang (10), Pahang (9), Perak (7), Negri Sembilan (6), Terengganu (4) and Kelantan (3).
Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Melaka and Perlis each has two deaths, while Labuan and Putrajaya have none.
Selangor continues to top the list of daily Covid-19 cases with 6,606 infections, followed by Kedah (3,179), Johor (2,986), Kuala Lumpur (2,856), Penang (2,462), Negri Sembilan (1,798), Sarawak (1,727), Kelantan (1,691) and Pahang (1,529).
States below the 1,500-threshold are Perak with 1,442 cases, Sabah (1,352), Terengganu (1,283), Melaka (725), Labuan (246), Perlis (224) and Putrajaya (140).
There are also five new Covid-19 clusters – three being education related.
Kuala Lumpur’s Lebuhraya Sg Besi detention centre cluster has the most cases with 33 infections and a positivity rate of 37.9%, while Selangor’s Jalan SS19 Satu high-risk group cluster recorded 14 cases.
For the education clusters, Negri Sembilan’s Ulu Gadong cluster logged 21 cases, followed by Penang’s Jalan Perak Kepala Batas (14) and Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Kolam (13).
Currently there are a total of 310,160 active cases, of which 297,924 are under home quarantine, 8,570 hospitalised, 3,278 in low-risk treatment and quarantine centres, 225 patients in need of ventilators, while 163 are in intensive care.
Total recoveries are at 3,367,542, with 26,653 recorded as of midnight.
Meanwhile, ICU bed usage is at a 85.4% for Kelantan, followed by those with usage above 50% – Kuala Lumpur (76.3%), Johor (75.4%), Putrajaya (65.0%), Penang (63.5%), Selangor (63.3%), Sabah (60%), Perak (59.8%), Melaka (52.2%) and Kedah (51.4%).
All states recorded hospital bed usage of above 50% except Kuala Lumpur and Labuan. The highest being Melaka with 81.1%, followed by Terengganu (81%), Negri Sembilan (79.7%), Kedah (79.6%), Penang (78.6%), Perlis (77.7%), Pahang (72.9%), Kelantan (72.4%), Selangor (69.7%), Perak (68.6%), Sarawak (66.6%), Johor (64.5%), Sabah (61.9%) and Putrajaya (53.2%). – The Vibes, March 10, 2022
