Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said no threat was detected in eastern Sabah following a Spanish award of RM62.59 billion to the heirs of the so-called Sulu Sultanate in compensation linked their territorial claims over the state.
In a press conference on Friday, Idris stated that the police had directed and mobilised all elements to double the level of preparedness in Sabah waters in response to the possibility of external threats disrupting Sabah's peace and sovereignty.
"The current situation appears to have boosted the spirits of those who previously planned to claim Sabah as part of their country," he said.
"This situation has heightened their emotions, and that is what we are concerned about."
However, he stated that the people of Sabah do not need to be worried because, historically, whenever the Philippine Presidential Election is held, the Sabah claims will undoubtedly arise.
