Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has stated that the e-Pemula programme is set to start soon, although no specific date has been mentioned as of yet.
Under the e-Pemula programme, youths aged between 18 and 20 years old as well as full-time students enrolled in tertiary education will receive a one-off RM150 e-wallet credit, which will be credited into the e-wallets of their choice. With an allocation of RM300 million, e-Pemula is expected to benefit more than two million youths, said the Finance Minister.
There’s also no mention yet of the eligible e-wallets in this programme – previously, major e-wallets including BigPay, Boost, GrabPay, ShopeePay, and TNG eWallet were the e-wallet partners supporting the two previous initiatives: e-Tunai Rakyat and e-Belia.
The Finance Minister also reminded the younger generation of the importance of practising sound financial management. “To achieve financial well-being, you need to familiarise yourself with the concept of self-control and get acquainted with the world of investments, as well as takaful and insurance plans that will, to some extent, help ensure financial well-being,” he added.
Furthermore, he highlighted several other government initiatives under Budget 2022 that also cater to the financial needs of youths. These include the RM150 million Young Entrepreneur Financing Plan by Bank Simpanan Nasional and Agrobank. He also mentioned the provision of a RM900 allowance for students undergoing practical training in the government sector, which has been implemented since 2019.
The e-Pemula programme was introduced under Budget 2022 to encourage the use of cashless transactions among youths.
