
Kota Kinabalu: Four matches will be held on the opening day of the inaugural Sabah Cup football tournament Grand Finals this afternoon (Wednesday) starting at 3pm.
In Group A, Tuaran will meet Putatan at the Likas Synthetic Pitch and the match between Membakut and Pitas will be held at the UMS Synthetic Pitch while in Group B, Telupid will take on Tawau at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex Field A, and at Field B is the match between Libaran and Keningau.
Sabah Football Association (Safa) Competition Committee Chairman Azman Mastar said the teams qualified for the final stage of the tournament are Tuaran, Putatan, Pitas, Membakut, Libaran, Telupid and Keningau and Tawau.
They are drawn into two groups with Group A consisting of Tuaran, Putatan, Pitas and Membakut while in Group B are Telupid, Tawau, Keningau and Libaran.
Only the two teams that top their respective groups will progress to the final to be staged at Likas Stadium on March 27.
“This tournament serves as a platform for the players to showcase their talent and hopefully they can be developed further and become quality players in the future such as Datuk James Wong, Datuk Hassan Sani and Matlan Marjan,” he said.
