Manchester United hero Paul Scholes was critical of Anthony Elanga for last night's Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

During the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano, it was the Swedish teenager who offered United a lifeline when he cancelled out a headed opener from Portuguese sensation Joao Felix. However, it was Elanga's delay in tracking back which allowed Renan Lodi to score at Old Trafford and that moment proved telling.

Scholes said: "I don't think it was a foul. I think he goes down far too easily.

"Rio [Ferdinand] is right, the back-four is all over the place, but Elanga has to sprint back and get into shape.

"It's the last 16 of the Champions League. When you lose the ball, you're out of shape, you have to sprint back and get back in."
