With the exponential growth of data in the world today, coupled with the shift from centralised clusters of compute and data storage to a more distributed architecture that processes data everywhere — in the cloud, at the edge and at all points in between — field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are taking on an increasingly important role in modern applications from the data centre to the network to the edge.

FPGAs appeal to speed a wide range of tasks, from high-performance computing (HPC) to storage and networking, because of their flexibility, power efficiency, massively parallel architecture, and large input/output (I/O) bandwidth. Many of these applications place significant demands on memory in terms of capacity, bandwidth, latency, and power efficiency.

Intel announced product details for the Intel® AgilexTM M-Series FPGAs, which are the industry's highest memory bandwidth FPGAs with in-package HBM DRAM, and are built on Intel 7 process technology. The Intel Agilex M-Series combines a number of new functional improvements and features that give the industry the high-speed networking, computation, and memory acceleration it needs to fulfil ever-higher performance and capability targets for networks, cloud, and embedded edge applications.

New features include:

  • The industry's highest memory bandwidth for an FPGA.

  • The industry's highest DSP compute density in an HBM-enabled FPGA.

  • Greater than 2x fabric performance per watt versus competitive 7nm FPGAs.

The Intel Agilex M-series FPGAs are the first in the Intel Agilex device family to incorporate hardened controllers for other cutting-edge memory technologies like DDR4, DDR5, and LPDDR5. The FPGA fabric has access to both in-package HBM2e and onboard memory resources through two hardened memory network-on-chip (NoC) functions.

Furthermore, Intel Agilex M-series FPGAs have the fastest transceiver data rates in the industry, which is crucial for systems processing today's massive data loads. The Intel Agilex M-series devices fulfil the throughput requirements of the most demanding applications from the data centre to the edge by supporting PCI Express (PCIe) Gen5, Compute Express Link, 400G Ethernet, and serial transceivers operating at up to 116 Gbps.

Test and measurement (arbitrary waveform generators, 5G/6G cellular network test, GHz RF test), data centres (HPC, cloud computing, cryptocurrency mining), wireless and wireline (high data rate (800G+) transmission, optical transport network (OTN), network functions virtualisation (NFV), 5G Baseband), and aerospace and defence are just some of the markets that will benefit from Intel Agilex M-series FPGAs (radar, electronic warfare).

Intel continues to enable our customers to achieve higher performance with better power efficiency across all end markets and applications with this latest FPGA series.
