Databricks, a data and AI business that pioneered the data lakehouse design, has announced that Databricks is now available on Google Cloud for customers in Asia Pacific, including locations in Singapore and Sydney. Databricks on Google Cloud makes it easier than ever for businesses in Southeast Asia to build a lakehouse capable of data engineering, data science, machine learning, and analytics on Google Cloud's global, scalable, and elastic network.
Hundreds of customers across every industry are now leveraging the Databricks Lakehouse Platform on Google Cloud, following the partnership’s initial launch last year. The Southeast Asia expansion is a reflection of growing demand from customers looking to adopt an open, modern lakehouse architecture and accelerate their cloud data strategy. Databricks on Google Cloud in Singapore enables greater flexibility and data locality choices for customers, and delivers enhanced performance and scalability while guaranteeing local data residency requirements.
“For True Analytics (a business under True Digital Group), finding valuable insights from massive amounts of data is essential for creating world class B2B products and services that delight our customers in Asia Pacific. Databricks on Google Cloud provides a lakehouse for our data engineers, data scientists and analysts to consolidate, collaborate, analyse, and use all of our global data to experiment and innovate quickly. We’re excited to see leaders like Google Cloud and Databricks come together to streamline and simplify getting value from data,” said Junjun Olympia, Head of Product and Platform Engineering of True Analytics, True Digital Group.
Databricks on Google Cloud is intimately linked with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Google Big Query, Looker, Google Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub, allowing users to choose their own data analytics services. Businesses in Southeast Asia and Australia can now extend their Databricks lakehouse capabilities and use Google BigQuery for analytics, simplifying their data investments with an open, modern data platform for all of their analytics use cases.
“Databricks continues to make significant investments in building our local capabilities in Singapore to meet the future needs of Southeast Asia’s rapidly growing data and AI communities,” said Andrew Martin, Head of South Asia, Databricks. “From fast-growing digital natives to large global enterprises, we continue to see incredible demand across the region. We are excited to work with Google to help accelerate our customers’ data and AI journey in this region together.”
“Cloud-driven transformation will underpin Southeast Asia’s growing Internet economy that is expected to be at $1 trillion by the end of the decade,” said Amitabh Jacob, Head of APAC Technology, ISV and Solutions Partnerships, Google Cloud. “Our strategic collaboration with Databricks to deliver lakehouse architecture on Google Cloud’s regional, scalable platform, and combined expertise in data engineering and AI-driven analytics, will enable companies to harness the power of data and tap into evolving digital models.”
Such capabilities will be especially critical for Southeast Asia, representing Asia Pacific’s fastest-growing digital economy. Recent findings from Deloitte forecast the adoption of cloud services to contribute a further USD $160 billion to the Asia Pacific economy from 2020 to 2024.
