The long-awaited iOS 15.4 updates from Apple have finally arrived, allowing iPhone owners to unlock their phones while wearing a mask.
‘iOS 15.4 includes the ability to utilize Face ID while wearing a mask, a new Siri voice option, increased language support for Visual Lookup, new emoji, and more,’ according to Apple.
Here are the highlights of iOS 15.4, which is now available for iPhone 6s and beyond. Apple is finally allowing iPhone customers to unlock their iPhones with Face ID while wearing a face mask, over two years after the Covid outbreak began.
Face ID, Apple’s facial recognition feature, has finally gotten the much-needed upgrade with iOS 15.4. Apple stated that “iPhone will now have an option that allows users to unlock Face ID while wearing a mask.” ‘Once enrolled, iPhone can authenticate by recognizing the unique features around the eye area.
‘While wearing a mask, Face ID may be used for unlocking iPhones, completing Apple Pay transactions, and auto-filling passwords in applications and Safari.’ While iOS 15.4 is compatible with all iPhone models starting with the iPhone 6s, only users with an iPhone 12 or later will be able to unlock their phone while wearing a mask.
Melting Face, Dotted Line Face, Face Holding Back Tears, and Face with Diagonal Mouth are among the seven new happy emojis in iOS 15.4. ‘In the handshake emoji, users may now choose unique skin tones for each hand,’ Apple stated. A motorcycle tire, a slide, a disco ball, a troll with a club, coral, kidney beans, and a low battery are among the other additions.
Last September, the Unicode Consortium approved candidates for the emoji release, version 14.0. Apple, Google, and Microsoft, for example, use stylized versions of the consortium’s designs in their own operating systems. Emojipedia disclosed Apple’s in a blog post on January 27, the same day iOS 15.4 was released in beta.
