Southampton fullback Kyle Walker-Peters is full of praise for captain James Ward-Prowse.

The 24-year-old, away with Gareth Southgate's England alongside teammates Ward-Prowse and Fraser Forster, insisted he always knew how “gifted" the skipper is.

The pair could line up together for England today, when they host Switzerland at Wembley Stadium (5:30PM), which would see Ward-Prowse earn a 10th cap.

Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has tipped 27-year-old Ward-Prowse to continue improving as a result of his attitude and mentality, labelling him as a real captain.

That is an assessment that Walker-Peters shared publicly when meeting the media as an England player for the first time.

"I always saw him play throughout the England youth set-up and I thought, this guy is a player," he said, speaking in an interview with England's YouTube channel.

"Then two and a half years ago I went to Southampton - and you know when someone really surprises you with how much of a leader they are.

“Technically, you know how gifted he is, his free-kicks are crazy. You see him practice them in training. If he takes ten, eight are a goal and that's not normal."
