KUALA LUMPUR – The Indonesia–Malaysia–Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) said the reopening of the Malaysia-Thailand borders will increase cross-border activities involving human resources and goods.
IMT-GT Joint Business Council Malaysia (JBC Malaysia) chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said the arrival of human resources from Thailand was expected to positively impact several business sectors such as services, plantations and fisheries.
“We are also hopeful of a significant impact on cross-border trade, tourism, hotel, and food sectors,” he said in a statement today.
Rozali said JBC Malaysia welcomed the decision by the government to open two land borders, namely Bukit Kayu Hitam-Sadao and Wang Kelian-Wang Prachan.
He also welcomed the initiatives by the IMT-GT member countries which agreed to open their borders and introduce several measures to facilitate foreign visitors’ entry process at their borders beginning April 1, 2022.
“JBC Malaysia fully supports the measures taken by the authorities and governments of member countries to facilitate procedures for pre-departure and arrival of foreign visitors.
“Exemptions of several test requirements and other screening procedures will definitely relieve our business members who have dealings at the border entry which would help increase the efficiency and speed of entry registration process,” he said.
JBC Malaysia is committed to voicing ideas and proposals to the government and member countries on the post-pandemic mitigation process that would affect the business recovery efforts in the IMT-GT region specifically and the country in general. – Bernama, March 31, 2022
