GEORGE TOWN – The Penang government is zoning in on the Asean and Middle East markets in a bid to revive the state’s tourism fortunes battered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin today said they have already initiated talks with airlines in Asean neighbours such as Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, and also those based in the Middle East, to resume direct flights to Penang.

“It will be easier to bring them back to Penang as countries like China, and also Hong Kong have yet to open their borders to foreign travellers,” Yeoh said at a forum on crime safety consciousness for tourists here.

Meanwhile, retired police assistant commissioner Datuk Mohamad Anil Shah said at the forum that it requires a collective effort of all Malaysians to ensure the safety and security of visitors. – The Vibes, March 31, 2022
