Zul Ariffin under probe over raunchy trailer: comms minister

KUALA LUMPUR – The government has launched an investigation on local actor Zul Ariffin over a raunchy teaser trailer of his upcoming drama Perempuan Itu that he posted on his Instagram account, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said today.

The video was shared widely on social media, sparking controversy over scenes hinting at sexual innuendo between Zul and his co-star Siti Hariesa.

Zul has since deleted the video from his social media.

“The legal process is underway. What is certain is that scenes shown in the video will not be allowed to be screened, not during Ramadan or any other month. Take care of our values and culture,” he said in a tweet this morning.

Annuar said Zul, 35, will be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network service, which carries a penalty of a fine of no more than RM50,000, up to a year in jail or both.

In one scene in the teaser trailer, Zul was shown removing his shirt and later lifting Hariesa up while she entwined her legs around him.

Hariesa was also dressed in a French maid outfit in another scene, feeding Zul whipped cream while seated astride him.

The controversial clip swiftly earned criticism and the disapproval of at least two federal ministers.

Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd, which runs TV3, had distanced itself from the purportedly sexy scene in the tele-drama, saying that the content is not under consideration for airtime.

In a statement on Sunday, it said that the scene may not be appropriate for local audiences, and is not in line with guidelines set by the Film Censorship Board. – The Vibes, March 22, 2022
