Venezia goalkeeper Sergio Romero has undergone knee surgery.

The 35-year-old former Sampdoria No1 will be out for several weeks after the operation, performed by Doctor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona.

A statement from the club confirmed the surgery was necessary to remove loose particles inside the right knee.

Romero joined Venezia as a free agent in October 2021 after coming off contract at Manchester United.

He made 16 Serie A appearances for the Lagunari this season, keeping three clean sheets and conceding 33 go
