Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s daily Covid-19 cases dipped to 2,131 on Friday from 2,717 the day earlier. However, sporadic infections still remain high at 69.03 per cent, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“Despite the large decrease in cases, transmission risk still exists when taking into account the high rate of sporadic infections within the community.

“Sporadic cases are the largest contributors in 25 out of 27 districts in Sabah,” he said in a statement, Friday.

A total of 15 deaths were recorded, with three each in Keningau, Beaufort and Tuaran, two in Kota Kinabalu and one each in Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Tenom and Kudat. No new clusters were identified.

Masidi said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 677 cases, followed by Penampang (199), Tuaran (145), Papar (122), Kota Belud (100), Tawau (98), Keningau (97), Beaufort (94) and Tenom (67).

Of the caseload, 231 cases involved children aged below 11, of which 129 were children aged below five.

Masidi said the majority of cases are mild, with 2,118 out of 2,131 cases being category one and two infections, which is 99.39 per cent.

“Six cases are in category three, six in category four and one in category five,” he added. Some 3,684 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 1,540 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 13,435 individuals were vaccinated on March 3, of which 11,209 were adults while 57 were teenagers and 2,169 were children.

As of March 3, he said a total of 2,413,804 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.3 per cent were adults, while 2,514,139 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.02 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 339,040 teenagers have received their first dose, while 313,750 have completed both doses, which is 77.3 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 55,540 children have received their first dose.
