An agent of one Chelsea has blasted the UK Government for "trapping" his client.

Players cannot be sold by Chelsea as a result of sanctions by the UK Government imposed on owner Roman Abramovich.

The Blues have been hit with a host of severe restrictions after Abramovich had his UK assets frozen by the government as part of the response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Under the new sanctions, Abramovich will not be allowed to sell the club at the current time, while the Chelsea are also banned from signing players, agreeing new contracts and selling tickets to fans.

The club are also unable to sell players - something that has prompted an angry response from the agent of one of the club's players.

According to Get French Football News, the agent of a French-speaking player texted the account and said: "How can they ban the club from selling players?

"Surely there are employment law implications for players who were due to leave now essentially being trapped?"
