Manchester United have been informally gathering information about the potential compensation fee they will need to pay for Ajax coach Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils held positive talks with ten Hag last week about becoming their next manager.

Sky Sports says United are now in the process of organising an official move for the 52-year-old.

This would involve paying a compensation fee to Ajax as ten Hag has a contract with the club until June 2023.

Talks have also begun over the handling of a possible announcement, given Ajax are currently in a tight race for the Eredivisie title.

However, sources say the Red Devils insist that heir investigation into the compensation fee is due diligence and not an indication that ten Hag is the preferred candidate.

The Premier League club are still working through their shortlist and they will go through the compensation figures for other candidates, including Mauricio Pochettino.

PSG are expected to part with Pochettino this summer after their elimination from the Champions League.

They will be forced to pay between £15m to £20m if they sack him, although they will be off the hook if United make an offer to the Argentine.
