Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old man was charged with causing grievous hurt to his sister.

However, no plea was recorded from Mohamad Firdaus Arbi after the charge was read to him before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, Friday.

The medical report is not ready yet.

Firdaus is accused of causing grievous hurt to Jumat Arbi, 51, with a knife at 6.30pm on March 8, this year at a house in Kg Pasir Putih, Putatan.

The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and liable to a fine and whipping, on conviction.

The court set April 20 this year for mention and ordered Firdaus to be remanded further pending the date.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Tham Pou Jin appeared for the prosecution while Firdaus was not represented.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man was jailed for five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.

Sabri Rasyid admitted to the charge against him.

He was found taking the drugs at 12.07am on Feb 9 this year after his urine was tested positive at the Penampang police station.

Sabri has two previous convictions for taking drugs.

After completing his jail sentence, Sabri was ordered to be placed under police supervision for three years.
