Former Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton is ready to assist in the sale of Chelsea.

Chelsea are up for sale after it was seized by the UK government as part of sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich.

Lifelong Chelsea fan Sir Martin, according to Sky News, has in recent days held discussions about playing a role in the bids of both LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and Philadelphia 76ers backer Josh Harris.

The 74-year-old is also reportedly in discussions with potential backers about making a bid of his own, with next week's deadline for offers looming.

Broughton is no stranger to a Premier League takeover, having orchestrated the sale of Liverpool to Fenway Sports Group, the Reds' current owners, in 2010.

Liverpool fans will be forever grateful for Broughton's role in the sale, ending the catastrophic reign of previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, with the Merseyside club now challenging for another Premier League having reemerged as an elite force in world football.
