Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has warned his players not to get ahead of themselves.

The Birmingham-based team were in fine fettle as they thumped Southampton on Saturday, winning two games in a row.

As they look to win three on the bounce for the first time this term, Gerrard urges caution as they prepare to take on Leeds United at Elland Road on Thursday.

He said, per Express and Star: "I don't want to get ahead of where we are right now.

"I think it is important to build on the last two wins and try to get a positive result at Leeds. We know what group of the league we are in and who we are trying to stay among and where we are trying to nudge it.

"But we have to be more consistent from now till the end of the season.

"We need to keep that from now until the end of the season and keep being tough to play against and aim as high as we can.

"I don't want to put a position on it. I don't think it is fair on the players to add any unnecessary pressure. We took over when the team were in 16th and we want to be as far away from that as we can."
