SANDAKAN: A farm worker was killed after currents swept his Proton Saga off a road and into the Sungai Memanjang, here, on Tuesday.
The man, identified only as Kahar, was driving through a stretch of road that had been flooded by flash floods when the tragedy occurred.
Beluran Fire and Rescue Station Head Rastam Keladi said they deployed a team after being alerted at 2.17pm.
“Our team, along with other agencies, used ropes and an excavator to recover the victim’s car.
“The body was discovered around 4.40 pm, 35 metres away from where the vehicle crashed into the river,” he said, adding that the remains had been turned over to the police for further investigation.
The operation was called off at 4.50pm after the Fire and Rescue crew made sure there were no more hazards in the area.
The police and Rela were also on hand to help.
