KOTA KINABALU: Residents in Tambunan were shocked when hailstones rained down in some areas around the district, Thursday.

In a video shared by SK Ragkam teacher Leslie Gilbert, marble-sized hailstones were seen to have rained down from the sky.

“The video was recorded near a river next to SK Ragkam, in Kampung Kuyungon,” she said when contacted.

“It happened around noon and lasted for about 10 minutes, and it came together with a heavy downpour and strong wind.”

MetMalaysia had previously explained that hailstones usually occur as a localised event or are limited to only a few areas that are covered by cumulonimbus clouds.

Hailstones are basically precipitation or water in the atmosphere that falls down to earth like rain and snow.
