Teacher seriously hurt in Beaufort fire

BEAUFORT: Rakimah Memun, 59, a teacher and senior assistant at Weston Government Secondary School, was seriously injured in the fire on Sunday.

Junaidy Abd Rahman, who is also the Chairman of the Village Community Development Committee, who witnessed the fire, said it started at 10:15pm.

“A teacher’s quarters was involved in the fire and the victim, who is still single, is believed to have suffered burns to her head, back and legs before being rushed to the hospital by villagers,” he said.

According to District Fire and Rescue Chief Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok, an emergency call was received about an hour later where a team of firefighters with two machines, including the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS), were dispatched to the scene.

“The journey was 28km on a gravel road from SK Meraba to Kg Inuman, and we were also assisted by the Lubok Village Volunteer Firefighters with its machinery and five personnel to extinguish the fire. “When the team arrived at the scene, the house was almost completely destroyed.

The cause of the incident has not been identified.
