Ex-Chelsea player Paul Canoville does not want the Ricketts family to buy the club.

Canoville is the first black footballer to ever play for the London club.

He spoke about the Ricketts family, who own the Chicago Cubs in the United States, being among the players seeking to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.

Canoville, an anti-racism campaigner, tweeted: "So I've seen and heard enough. I'm backing @ChelseaSTrust and saying a big fat anti racism NO to the Ricketts bid!!"

Part of the issue around the Ricketts family stems from Joe Ricketts writing the following in an email exchange in 2019: "Muslims are naturally my (our) enemy due to their deep antagonism and bias against non-Muslims."
