Here’s a far fetched scenario on the minds of some supporters of “Malu Apa Bossku” that deserve our attention and should be pondered by all!

What if, riding on the crest of waves of recent successes in Melaka and Johor, UMNO decided to vote in Najib again as its President, the party then pressured the government to hold a snap General Election and he led Barisan Nasional to victory?

Fresh from their victory in Johor, UMNO is on cloud nine. Speculations are rife about pushing the government to call for an early GE15. Najib is ever so popular in UMNO now, so, in the next party general assembly, the “Malu Apa Bossku” faction, might be able to lobby successfully for him and get him voted in as President.

So far, the party has not abided by any conventional practice where an incumbent would normally withdraw from a position once suspected of any impropriety, much less when charged in court.

Zahid with 47 charges had refused to vacate his seat. Najib who had been found guilty and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, had been nominated to lead UMNO to victory in two state elections.

Who could stop him now?

Much to our disappointment, his “Malu Apa Bossku” movement is gaining momentum. The opposition is rather weak at the moment and in tatters after the Johor state election.

The government is, unfortunately, not in the hands of very strong and powerful leaders who could stand up to the might of Najib and Zahid.

Many of Najib’s followers would eagerly welcome him back and returned to power for their benefit.

Even Tun M in an interview by Astro Awani once said “Najib ada angan-angan mahu dilepaskan untuk jadi PM” (Najib has delusions of being released to be PM).

We are sure Tun M who knew his protege and successor, well would not have spoken unless he had an inkling of what was on Najib’s mind.

Najib’s appeal is up and a Queen’s Counsel is expected in town to help defend him in his final bid for freedom. We do not wish and are not supposed to speculate here, on the court’s eventual decision.

However, if he had to serve time he could still appeal to the King to be pardoned. In this case, there was a precedent where Anwar Ibrahim who was sentenced to jail for five years imprisonment succeeded in his appeal for a pardon from the Agong and was able to return to politics almost immediately upon his release from Sungai Buluh.

In Malaysia, a land of boundless possibilities, such a scenario, might sound far fetched, incredible and scary to you but could happen if only we allowed it and refused to stand up to the unscrupulous!

Don’t you think the time has come for all of us to wake up and put an end to this delusion?
