KUALA SELANGOR, March 1 — Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) dan Universiti Selangor (Unisel) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen persons with disabilities (OKU) in the state.
State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the cooperation is also aimed at improving the Anak Istimewa Selangor (Anis) programme, so that special needs children are not left behind and can fend for themselves.
“With the university’s involvement, we are confident all kinds of studies, community work, and training involving special needs children can be implemented, which will help Anis to expand.
“I hope this cooperation between academics and university students will be a catalyst for the continuation of the best service for these special needs children,” she told SelangorKini, after attending the signing of the memorandum between Unisel and Yawas at Unisel Bestari Jaya earlier today.
Also in attendance was Unisel president and vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Muhammad Redzuan Othman, and Yawas general manager Gan Pei Nei.
Through the MoU, Unisel will offer its expertise and facilities to Anis, under the supervision of Yawas. This includes OKU community cooperation, such as assisting Yawas and Anis to carry out state tours when necessary, and cooperating in developing the Anis Teacher’s Professional Certificate,
In addition to preparing high-impact Anis-Unisel consultation services and research, the MoU will include community service collaboration between experts and volunteers, as well as cooperation with Unisel’s academic programme, through a joint venture with its
Social Science Education Faculty.
Anis and Unisel promotional cooperation programmes will also be held via conferences, webinars, seminars, and special promotions, alongside research and training collaborations.
