More details are coming to light as the trial involving Roger Ng & 1MDB goes on in New York Court.
The jury in the trial of a former Goldman Sachs Group Inc banker finally got a look at hard proof of the treasures bought with money allegedly looted in the multibillion-dollar 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) corruption scandal.
The receipt for the US$23 million (approximately RM97 million) necklaces with a large pink diamond created by New York jeweller Lorraine Schwartz for Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor was shown to them.
Bloomberg reported that the jury was not shown the physical necklace nor a photo of it, just the invoice which proved the purchase of the jewellery.
Not only that but the jeweller’s contact has shown that Lorraine was contacted by Jho Low in June 2013 when he asked her to create a pink diamond for the wife of the former Prime Minister. Records showed that Lorraine later personally delivered the necklace to Rosmah while the latter was staying aboard a yacht with Jho Low off the coast of Monaco.
Records have also shown that Rosmah would later buy an additional US$1.3 million (approximately RM5.3 million) in jewellery from Lorraine in 2014.
According to Berita Harian, Roger Ng is the only Goldman banker to stand trial in the scandal. He is accused of conspiring with his former boss Tim Leissner to help Jho Low bring in billions of dollars from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.
