KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit South Sumatera in Indonesia at 10.12 pm last night.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the quake with a depth of 61 kilometers (km) struck 118km northwest of Siberut.

However, it did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, the statement said. — Bernama
