Kuala Lumpur: Tourism operators that repeatedly violate the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry (Motac) will be subjected to stern action under the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482).
Motac, in a statement Friday, reminded all tourism operators that they must always comply with the SOP to ensure smooth implementation of the National Recovery Plan.
The ministry has issued two inspection notices and five show-cause letters to tourism companies who had breached the SOP during Motac Enforcement and Compliance operations in Langkawi as well as at the country’s international gateways on Feb 25 and March 8.
The Motac enforcement team have strengthened its preparedness so that Malaysian families and foreign travellers can enjoy tour packages operated by licensed tour operators.
This move was in line with the announcement on the reopening of the country’s borders and the transition to the endemic phase of Covid-19 on April 1.
Under the Langkawi International Travel Bubble (LITB) SOP which was introduced on Nov 15 last year, MOTAC said licensed tour companies can provide tour guide services with a maximum of 20 people throughout the tour itinerary.
