
Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court sentenced a man to seven months’ jail for disposing of five stolen smartphones, Friday.
Rodi Salimin pleaded guilty before Senior Assistant Registrar Tiong Wen Wen, who sat as a magistrate, to committing the offence on the handphones belonging to CML KK Enterprise Sdn Bhd at 10am on Sept 26, 2021 at a squatter colony in Manggatal.
Rodi was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction. He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Nov 21, 2021.
In another case, a foreign man was jailed six months for stealing 80m electric cable.
Mustafa Bahijam admitted to stealing the cable belonging to SESB at 2pm on Dec 2 last year at the junction of Kg Salut Seafood restaurant, Jalan Sulaman, Manggatal. The charge, under Section 379 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.
The court ordered the jail term to run from the date of Mustafa’s arrest. Inspector Navind Kumar Vijayan prosecuted.
