KOTA BELUD: The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Tsunami programme is able to empower the potential of the local community.
Science, Technology and Innovation Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Ruddy Awah said the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme was implemented by the Sandakan Community College (KKSK) to help develop the potential and skills of the community.
“This programme can leave a positive impact on the community, especially the target group.
“Apart from CSR, KKSK together with college students also had the opportunity to give exposure on short-term electrical wiring courses to the villagers,” he said.
Ruddy described the implementation of the TVET programme as the right platform to guide the community by providing skills that can generate income.
“This effort is the right platform to help the community, especially those in rural areas.
“Hopefully, other community colleges will emulate it and also go down to the field to help the needy in providing technical and vocational education,” said Ruddy after officiating the TVET Tsunami programme at Kg Rampaian Laut near here.
He added that the programme was also seen to be able to build identity, close cooperation and team spirit among students, officials and the local community.
The four-day, three-night programme involved 22 villagers and 26 KKSK students. It was also attended by KKSK Deputy Director Danielle David and Kg Rampaian Laut village chief Juan Datu Samsul.
