What do food and beverage staples like polo buns, egg tarts, pork chop rice, and milk tea have in common? All of them are some favourites that define Hong Kong cuisine. That being said, here is our pick of 8 Hong Kong Eateries in KL & PJ To Satisfy Your Craving.
1) Kam Kee Cafe
Strategically located near the entrance of The Starling Mall, the Hong Kong-based cha chaan teng Kam Kee Cafe originally made its first international debut in 2020. I only got to try some of their famous food and drinks early this year. First up is their assorted range of polo buns, where I ordered the basic variety that comes with a thick slab of butter. Simple as it may look, it’s comforting and delicious and certainly pairs well with a cup of their signature hot Hong Kong Milk Tea or the unique Almond Tea topped with egg white. Another bestseller — their Hong Kong Egg Tarts, a snack-worthy morsel of thick and flaky tart shell with sweet and custardy egg filling in the middle.
Address: G-032, Ground Floor, The Starling, Jalan SS 21/37, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

2) Togather
I first encountered this corner-lot restaurant in the bustling neighbourhood of Kuchai Lama around last year. They serve plenty of reasonably-priced Hong Kong-inspired food and beverages here from their signature duck rice with fried egg to polo bun with a slice of butter or a scoop of ice cream and egg tart. Best paired with their Hong Kong milk tea or coffee, which is served either hot or iced. Togather also serves other food like Buttermilk Chicken Rice, Pineapple Fried Rice, Tom Yam Seafood Meehoon, and Fish & Chips (frankly, I have to say they have lots of choices available as you flip their menu). Apart from their Kuchai Lama outlet, they also have a few branches around the Klang Valley area.

A casual dining spot located at Plaza Usahawan Genting Kelang, Mrs Yau Canteen specialises in Hong Kong-style cuisines and fusion food as well. But let’s talk about the former, beginning with their popular Baked Pork Chop Cheese Rice with Tomato Sauce. For Hong Kong snacks, they have Curry Fish Ball and Fried Fish Cake and finally, wash your food down with hot or cold Hong Kong milk tea or a glass of refreshing Iced Tea with lime & the blackcurrant goodness of Ribena.
Address: 42A, Plaza Usahawan Genting Kelang, Jalan Danau Niaga 1, Taman Danau Kota, Setapak, 53300 Kuala Lumpur.

Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong, which has several outlets in KL and PJ areas, is best known for its assorted Hong Kong dim sum. Their outlets are typically crowded during the weekend so expect a queue to get a table. Looking at their menu, some of Jin Xuan Hong Kong’s recommended items include siu mai, har gaw and baked custard bun.
