
Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old Filipino, charged with causing grievous hurt to a local in a road rage incident, will go trial in April this year.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz set April 25 and 26 for Joni Abdullah’s trial. During Joni’s case management, the prosecution served all documents pertaining to the case.
Joni was on April 25, 2021 charged in court.
He allegedly assaulted one Aaron Liew with a weapon, leading to seven of teeth being broken, at 10pm on March 29, 2021 along Jalan Kolam, Luyang. The offence, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 20 years on conviction.
In another case, two men were jailed five and six years as well as ordered to be given a stroke of the cane each for taking drug repeatedly. Abdulhalim Albin was sentenced to six years plus one whipping while Faizal Lukman was jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane.
Abdulhalim was arrested on Jan 27 this year after testing positive for drug at the Penampang police station.
Faizal was detained on Dec 22, 2021 after he tested positive for drug at the Kota Belud police station.
Both of them had previous convictions for taking drugs.
The court ordered the duo to serve the sentence from the date of their arrests and to be put under police supervision for two years after completing the sentences.
