
Kota Kinabalu: An 18-year-old was charged at the Magistrate’s Court, here, Wednesday, with housebreaking and theft.
Tuji Sairin was accused of breaking into Kedai Runcit Adi Wan belonging to Ahmadi Yaling at Kg Lobou 1, Manggatal at 5am on Feb 8.
However, no plea was recorded from Tuji, who appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles via video conferencing.
The offence under Section 457 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 14 years, on conviction.
Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik, prosecuting, applied for another mention date and proposed no bail as Tuji has no valid identification documents.
The court set April 12 for mention and ordered Tuji be remanded further.
Meanwhile, another 18-year-old woman was charged with engaging in illegal online gambling activity.
Ummai Sarah Abdullah allegedly committed the offence with a handphone behind the general market in Manggatal town at 5pm on Feb 12.
No plea was taken from Ummai after the charge was read out to her via Zoom.
The offence under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both, on conviction.
Lovely set April 12 for mention and ordered Ummai to be further remanded as she has no valid identification documents.
In another case, five people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.
Hakim Hajim, Syafiq Aiman and Bob Sarman pleaded guilty to having syabu weighing between 1.81gm and 0.02gm at separate locations here between Oct 25, 2021 and Dec 28, the same year.
Hakim was sentenced to 10 months’ jail, Syafiq was jailed five months and fined RM1,800 or six months jail while Bob was fined RM2,800 or 10 months jail.
They were each charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both, on conviction.
The other two were Amit Sarif and Chong Kim Tee, who admitted to taking syabu in Penampang and here on Nov 15, last year and Jan 1, this year.
Amit and Chong were each handed five months jail.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
