Johor not spared from flash floods as Kg Pasir, Kulai inundated

JOHOR BARU – Two areas in southern Johor – Kg Pasir here and Kulai – have been hit by flash floods, disrupting daily life and the ongoing election campaigning.

Taking to Instagram, Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong said that heavy rains today have resulted in floods in Kg Pasir, and that village chief Tok Azmi Misni has asked the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to immediately reactivate the water pumps.

“Last night, I was having discussions with residents of Kg Pasir about their flood troubles. Today, the heavy rains throughout the day have brought floods to the area again.

“As village chief Tok Azmi has requested the DID to reactivate pumps, I will do what I can to reduce the burdens of the residents here,” he added.

Meanwhile, Muda co-founder Dr Mathen Nair also reported flash flooding in Taman Indahpura, Kulai.

He shared a video on Twitter showing floodwaters in the area that seem to be ankle-deep and causing traffic jams.

“I came to Johor to campaign but it’s flooding. It only rained for an hour, but water levels rose to the point where cars cannot move in front of the Kulai district police headquarters.” – The Vibes, March 7, 2022
