France coach Didier Deschamps has responded to claims from Paul Pogba he's suffered depression since joining Manchester United.

The France midfielder says he's suffered several bouts of depression since 2016 when signing for United.

Deschamps said, "We didn't take care of him before?

"There are specialists in this area. Everyone can have personal psychological difficulties. It's not a taboo subject. It's not just about top athletes. These are difficult times to live with. The specificity of the athlete is that it is linked to the requirement.

"For some, it's stress. It can be difficult to manage. I don't know if it will free speech. Already, for great athletes, as Paul did, it will allow him to free himself perhaps. To make the legs work, it is first the head that commands. They are not robots. They have their strengths and weaknesses."
