KOTA KINABALU: Muslims in Sabah are allowed to perform congregational prayers including Tarawih in mosques and surau with full capacity but with social distancing between the worshippers based on the size of their prayer mats, starting tomorrow (Friday).

Announcing this, Sabah Mufti Datuk [email protected] Jaafar (pic) said they can perform the prayers as long as their shoulders and feet are not touching one another.

He said they are encouraged to bring their own prayer mats when performing the prayers.

Bungsu said only those fully vaccinated including those who have taken their boosters are allowed to perform the congregational prayers and Tarawih in mosques and surau.

Meanwhile, the State Government through the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis), on Thursday, has announced RM7 as the Zakat Fitrah to be paid by Muslims during Ramadan month this year.

Bungsu, who made the announcement, said the tithe rate was set based on a measure of one bushel or 2.7 kilogrammes of rice eaten by the majority of the population in Sabah.
