JOHOR BAHRU: The organisation of the Riuh Keluarga Malaysia programme is a two-pronged approach to help arts and creative industry practitioners generate income and for those who have been affected by various challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic to take their minds off their troubles.
Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s (KKMM) deputy secretary-general (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said it also aimed to highlight the works and activities carried out by arts and creative industry practitioners.
She said that initially the Riuh Keluarga Malaysia was only based in the Klang Valley, but this year it will be held nationwide, as mooted by Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, with Ayer Hitam, Johor, has been selected as its first location.
“He (Annuar) is of the view that this Riuh programme should be brought to the whole country so that more arts practitioners will be able to participate and more people at all levels can get involved to experience this programme in their respective areas.
“At the same time, we received requests from art practitioners at certain localities to bring Riuh to their areas so that more arts talents in those locations can participate,” she said when appearing as a guest in the TV1’s ‘Selamat Pagi Malaysia’ programme, produced by Radio Televisyen Malaysia.
Mastura said Ayer Hitam has been selected as the first location for the Riuh Keluarga Malaysia at the state level due to its popularity for artistic and creative products, especially ceramic products.
She added that among interesting programmes lined up at Arena Warna in Ayer Hitam, from March 3 to 5, were the sale of creative and food items, arts and music performances, creative workshops, art exhibitions and pop-up stalls.
However, Mastura said the programme was conducted in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), in line with the current situation of Covid-19.
Previously, KKMM said that the Riuh Keluarga Malaysia aims to bring together local creative entrepreneurs and arts practitioners from 12 creative industry sectors which include music, film, photography, animation, performing arts, literature, inventions, crafts and traditional arts, culinary arts, visual arts, fashion and creative education.
This initiative is expected to create at least 5,000 jobs throughout the 14 locations and supports 2,000 local practitioners and businesses.
