River Plate were never in for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani in January.

Cavani was linked with River, among several clubs, during the January market, with manager Ralf Rangnick later stating he had blocked the veteran from leaving.

River chief Enzo Francescoli, however, insists they were never in contact with the Uruguayan.

He said on Friday: "I never spoke with Cavani. There were no negotiations at all."

Cavani's deal with United expires at the end of this season.
