Kedah expects influx of Thai tourists after Raya: state top cop

BUKIT KAYU HITAM – Kedah police are expecting an influx of Thailand tourists after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities in May.

State police chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said it is difficult to estimate the number of private cars that will enter the country tomorrow, but they expect about 800 to 900 commercial vehicles per day.

“We do not expect many tourists during the fasting month. I think more people will come to Malaysia after the Raya holidays to find jobs and travel,” he said when met by reporters today.

Earlier, he attended the border empowerment programme in conjunction with the opening of the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security complex here.

Wan Hassan said Kedah police are also preparing to monitor the border with a special team that will assist the General Operations Force at the Bukit Kayu Hitam and Changloon police stations.

“We will also conduct a Border Special Op, combining special units including the Criminal Investigation Department, K9, and others.

“This means that more than 300 officers are expected to be directly involved, besides assistance from other enforcement agencies.”
