Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been dropped by Spain coach Luis Enrique with Brentford's David Raya recalled.

De Gea played the entirety of United's 1-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, a result which dumped them out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage.

He was Spain's starter at a disappointing 2018 World Cup, where they crashed out in the round of 16, before becoming backup to Unai Simon, who helped them reach the semi-finals of the European Championship last year.

The 26-year-old Raya was born in Barcelona but has played in England for several years. He was at Blackburn before joining Brentford in 2019.

Raya will likely be third-choice goalkeeper behind Athletic Bilbao's Simon and Robert Sanchez of Brighton.
