Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has revealed how manager Eddie Howe has transformed training.

Lascelles has spoken of his way to motivate players.

He said to The Athletic: "Success is recognised rather than failure punished."

As a result, Dwight Gayle is among those to win a prize from the fine kitty for topping the training leaderboard.

The table tallies performances during possession and small sided matches.

Lascelles claims if the 32-year-old loses a practice game "he's miserable."

Howe said earlier this month: "Dwight's been very good in his training and quite rightly deserves some sort of recognition from me.

“He's someone I respect greatly — he's a real leader of the group.

"You have your guys who are playing, but then you have your guys who aren't playing but are so important to the culture and feel of the group.

"Dwight's been pivotal in keeping that very positive.

"He is a big reason behind why the team is doing so well."
