AC Milan owners Elliott Management were angered by a social media post from the head of Investcorp.
Bahrain-based Investcorp are in advanced talks with Elliott to buy the Rossonero.
After Friday night's win against Genoa, which saw Milan maintain the Serie A leadership, Mohammed Al-Ardhi, executive president of InvestCorp, posted: "Congratulations to Milan for being back on top of the championship."
Il Giornale says the comments were not appreciated by Elliott.
