ALOR STAR – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) final-year student Nur Nabilah Mohd Azahar, who was seriously injured in an accident while undergoing industrial training at Dive Division Curacao in the Caribbean last December arrived safely in the country on Friday.

UUM vice-chancellor Prof Haim Hilman Abdullah, deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, senior officials from Wisma Putra and UUM, as well as her parents Mohd Azahar Zakaria and Nor Manira Khalib were present at the airport to welcome Nur Nabilah.

Haim Hilman said the plane carrying Nur Nabilah, 25, from Alor Star, landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 8pm.

He added that Nur Nabilah, a student at UUM’s School of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management, will continue her follow-up treatment at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital and hoped that the girl and her family continue to be patient and resilient.

“I would like to thank UUM, parents and families who always pray for Nur Nabilah, as well as the ministries of higher education and foreign affairs, and all parties involved in her treatment,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, Nur Nabilah’s mother, Nor Manira, said she was grateful and indebted to all parties who helped with her daughter’s treatment abroad.

“I am so happy to see my daughter is finally brought home safely with the cooperation of all parties,” she said.

Meanwhile, one of Nur Nabilah’s friends, Aiman Qistina Balqis Azman, who has known Nur Nabilah for more than seven years, said she took leave just to welcome her best friend home and hoped she would recover soon.

Media previously reported that Nur Nabilah, better known as Bella among family and friends, suffered severe injuries to her left leg and fractured her right arm and right leg after being hit by a boat propeller while undergoing industrial training at Dive Division Curacao in the Caribbean, on December 28. – Bernama, April 10, 2022
