Kota Kinabalu: All business sectors in Sabah will be allowed to operate starting May 15, including nightclubs and karaoke outlets that were previously on the negative list, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
“However, Sabahans would be advised to continue the use of face masks, like we do now.
“This is taking into account the risk of sporadic transmission, which is still high at 56.5 per cent on Friday,” he said in a statement, Friday.
Additionally, Masidi said the State Government welcomes the Malaysian Health Ministry’s announcement on relaxed rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs) which will take effect on May 1.
However, he said the State Government would make adjustments to the SOPs if there is a need for it, by taking the local situation into account.
“We welcome this announcement, especially relaxations, that would ease the entry of foreign tourists and steps that can expedite economic recovery.
“Our main consideration is to maintain the moment of recovery to enable the State to move into the endemic phase more quickly,” he explained.
Sabah recorded 46 cases on Friday, a marginal increase from 36 the day earlier, while one death was recorded in Kota Kinabalu. No new clusters were identified.
“For the first time in my many months, not a single district in Sabah recorded double-digit figures. Penampang topped the list with nine cases, followed by eight in Kota Kinabalu. No new infections were recorded in 12 districts.
“The situation in all districts remains stable and under control. The rise and fall of new infections are marginal,” said Masidi.
He said the majority of cases were mild, with 45 out of 46 being category one and two infections. One case was recorded in category three, while no cases were recorded in category four and five.
