KENINGAU: Upko Supreme Council Member and Youth Exco Deputy Chief, Kennedy Jie John along with 933 former Upko members of the Keningau division have quit the party and joined Barisan Nasional (BN) through Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) in a ceremony held in Apin-Apin, here.
PBRS President, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup in welcoming Kennedy and his supporters to BN, said it can contribute to strengthen the struggle of the PBRS machinery in the Keningau Parliamentary area in the next election.
He called on party members to remain united and be ready to face the upcoming general election.
Kurup said PBRS is ready to represent BN.
Kennedy said he and former Upko members have chosen BN through PBRS because they wanted a stable government that could revive the country’s economy.
“Our entry into BN is also on the basis of realising that only BN is able to bring progress and political stability apart from being concerned about the welfare of the people,” he said.
Kennedy said Upko members and supporters in Keningau also have lost confidence to the party’s struggle.
At the ceremony, Kennedy handed over the membership forms to Kurup, witnessed by PBRS Deputy President, Datuk Arthur Kurup and party leaders.
