Tuaran: Twenty three areas here and in Kota Belud have been affected by floods after continuous heavy rain for five hours since 5pm on Saturday.
Tuaran Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Paulina Francis Paulina Francis said the situation in six areas of Tuaran is under control and regular monitoring is conducted to ensure the safety of the residents.
She said as of 12.30pm, Sunday, 10 victims comprising a family of eight adults and two children were transferred to the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS) at the Kg Tinuhan Surau, Tenghilan.
“A house in Kg Tinuhan was reported to have collapsed and the occupants moved to the nearest relative’s house. One road was cut off at Tamparuli bridge and all types of vehicles could not pass due to the flooding of the Tuaran River,” she said.
Apart from Kg Tinuhan Tenghilan, the four other areas affected were Pekan Tenghilan, Kg Bunga, Kg Suang Bangau and Kg Paruh.
Meanwhile, Kota Belud District APM Officer Jimmy Alberto Tining said water levels at Sungai Tempasuk, Sungai Abai and Sungai Kadamaian reached 4.80 meters.
“The condition of the three river water levels that overflowed onto land resulted in 17 villages being affected but are under control. So far, the APM received information that 11 residents have been evacuated by the fire and rescue department to the nearest relative’s house in Kg Lentigi,” he said.
Jimmy said rescue teams are conducting monitoring and preparing to help residents in the affected areas.
Among the villages involved are Kg Bobot, Kg Ejuk, Kg Siasai Tamu, Kg Kota Belud, Kg Menunggui, Kg Sembirai, Kg Lingkodon, Kg Linau and Kg Gunding.
The others are Kg Suang Punggur, Kg Sadok-Sadok, Kg Song-Song, Kg Marajah, Kg Lebak Engad, Kg Lebak Moyoh, Kg Limatok and Kg Taun Gusi Keranjangan. Residents are advised to immediately contact the rescue team in the event of an emergency.
