Kota Kinabalu: From native dishes, classic malay flavors to Thai delicacies, those looking to buka puasa or simply indulge in a feast can do so with a flavorsome Southeast Asian flair at ‘Iftar Ria’ -- Shangri-La Rasa Ria’s 2022 Ramadan Buffet.

Happening throughout April until May 2, Rasa Ria’s Grand Ballroom will be transformed into a lively bazaar with an extensive lineup of food stalls, apt with its ‘Ramadan Bazaar’ theme.

Head Chef Elroy Ernest said the theme was selected as it would allow the hotel’s chefs to display their skills as they freshly prepare the dishes in front of guests. Tuaran-style Ambuyat

He added that the local ambuyat delicacy, a starchy substance derived from sago palm, was a new addition to the spread this year which offers guests an authentic local experience.

“Different districts have different styles of making ambuyat, and here we make our ambuyat in the Tuaran style.

“Most of our guests come from far away, so we want them to try authentic local flavors here in Tuaran,” he told Daily Express. Thai delicacy, Somtam

With Elroy’s previous working experience in Shangri-La Chiang Mai, Thailand, he also added a popular Thai delicacy to the spread -- the Som Tam, a vibrant and tangy green papaya salad made with his own recipe.

Outdoor seating options are also available under beautiful decorative lights that set a relaxing ambience, while the vibrant light tunnel display next to it offers guests a picturesque spot for photo-taking.

Available from 6pm-10 pm, the buffet is priced at RM118 per adult and is free for children below 11 on weekdays, while on weekends it is priced at RM138 per adult and RM55 per child.

Rasa Ria is currently offering early bird rates at RM88 per adult and free for children below 11 on weekdays while on weekends the rates are at RM108 per adult and RM45 on weekends.
