Zahid’s daughter says brother had ‘toxic relationship’ with Siti Bainun

KUALA LUMPUR – Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, the daughter of Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, today confirmed that her younger brother was in a relationship with Siti Bainun Ahd Razali, the woman accused of neglecting and abusing a special needs child under her care.

On Monday, Zahid denied claims that he had offered to protect Siti Bainun by offering up to 10 defence lawyers to fight her case, after a photograph of them together with Zahid’s family went viral online.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Nurulhidayah confirmed that she had attempted to matchmake her youngest brother with Siti Bainun in the past.

In her post, she also shared a photo of herself with Siti Bainun and her youngest brother, pointing out the picture was taken in the deputy prime minister’s residence in Sri Satria.

“At that time, the accused (Siti Bainun) was a worker involved in support work at Umno headquarters,” Nurulhidayah said.

“All those present at the event included the deputy prime minister’s office and Umno staff.”

Nurulhidayah said she attempted to matchmake Siti Bainun and her brother during the event, adding that he was shy and not well versed at talking to other women.

“What happened after we meddled was that they got close. But only God knows everything,” she said.

However, Nurulhidayah said ties between the pair began deteriorating due to a lack of understanding and respect, and advised her brother to end the “toxic relationship”.

She also denied talk that the couple nearly got married, stressing that she herself was staunchly against the relationship.

“Honestly, my family has never looked at the background of people who get close to us. Rich, poor, disabled or perfect, we appreciate everyone. That’s all I have to say, I feel betrayed,” Nurulhidayah said.
